Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Again a year has passed, and what an eventful year it has been.

  1. Found out we are having a baby!
  2. Moved to the Chicago burbs.
  3. Took job at Follett Digital Resources
  4. Was moved to Follett Software Company from Follett Digital Resources
  5. Rented our first (whole) house
  6. Bought our first new car (well, almost new)
  7. Started FOSSCasts.com
  8. Turned 26.
  9. loved my wife even more

Looking back, it has been a very eventful year.  Seems that every year is more eventful than the last… although I think 2010 will be the year of “Yerhot Jr.”

One year older

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I’m now one year older. I am 25. It is one of those ‘cup is half full or half empty’ ages. On one hand I’m halfway to thirty. On the other hand, I’m probably entering my prime. I’ll go with my prime.

Sometimes I look at the past year and I think that not much has happened. I think I’m one of those people that needs to have things happening all the time though, because in reality lots has happened.

  • We moved across town
  • I got a new job.. well got it at the end of last year..
  • Paid off lots of debt
  • Discovered the Stockmarket ($$)
  • Went out to Seattle/Portland for a while
  • Some other stuff I don’t really want to publicly put out there… ;)

I had a wonderful day.. nice dinner at Tom and Wanda’s last night. Some cake and cards and a nice dinner with Jen tonight… lots of “Happy virtual Facebook Birthday’s”. Plus my mom sent me flowers. Guys getting flowers is hardcore. Love ya mom.

I’m really happy and am extremely excited for what the next year holds.

Moving Day

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Yesterday we moved into our new apartment.  The day was ‘interesting’.

  • Got up at 6:30am to get the UHaul at 7:30.
  • There was a line of people at UHaul and only 1 guy working.
  • Got the UHaul at around 8:15 and had to return it at 2pm.
  • Loaded box after box into the UHal and by 10:30 had most of the big stuff in and the UHaul was full.
  • Dumped it all off at the new place, met the neighbors (and I was super sweaty had crazy hair from moving)
  • Jen’s friend Anita came over to help unload right when the last box got unloaded, but helped go get the new couch.
  • by this time it was almost 1pm and we had to get the UHaul back.
  • Dropped it off, ate at good old McDonalds and talked about how sore we all were from lifting all that stuff.
  • I went back to the old apt to clean and get any last stuff out. Realized there were 2 closets we never boxed up.  Crap.
  • Took 2 car loads of stuff to the new apartment.
  • Took a break from 5 – 7 to eat dinner and not die of exhaustion.
  • Got back to the old apartment at 7:15 to find some girl sitting on the stairs along with tons of furniture.. my bullshit alarms started to go off.  I asked if she needed help, she said ‘no’.  As I walked up the stairs at to our apartment, she asked if it was our stuff in there.  I said ‘yep’ we are finishing up cleaning.  ”Well, (our landlords) said you would be out and I could move in today…”, to which I replied, “I haven’t told them that and I paid through the end of the month”.
  • Whipped out the phone called the land lords.
  • They said they told her she could move in early if we called them and said we were out.
  • Ok the reasons this whole thins is BS are:
    • I’ve never seen this girl, Jen’s never seen this girl. They must have showed out apartment when we were not home and without or authorization. Under law they have to give 24 hours notice to enter the apartment.
    • The management never did a walk through.  They said they would do one after the new tenents moved in.  Umm.. no.  They would have no grounds to determine what, if any, damage was our fault.
    • There were  multiple maintenance requests that were never addressed.  I’m not understanding how they can let a new tenant move in with a drawer that has the front broken off cause the wood is starting to rot.
  • The girl said that she would do the cleaning if we’d quick move what was left out and let her dump her stuff off.  What the hell I said.
  • We did. We went to our new home.  We went to sleep.

What a day.  This morning I can barley move I’m so sore.

Trip to Seattle & Washington State

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Just booked a little week long excursion to Washington State for next month.  We’re flying in to Seattle on June 14th and will be returning on 21st.  Should be super sweet, the Pacific Northwest is my favorite region of The States and its been about 6-7 years since I’ve been out there.

Jen’s never been there before, so I’m very sure her mind will be blown.  The tentative itinerary is 2-3 days in Seattle, 1 day for The Olympic Nat’l Park/Washington Coastline, and a day for a quick Portland/Mt. St. Helen’s trip.  Maybe only 2 days in Seattle and another day split between Mt. St. Helen’s and Mt. Rainier and a full day for Portland… hell, we don’t know maybe we’ll just see what we feel like doing, thats what we usually end up doing on vacations.  For our trip to Florida, we literally had no plan except to go to Florida and went with the flow the whole time and it was great.

I’d also like to go out to Spokane and visit some relatives, we’ll have to see.. so much to do so little time.

I’ll for sure be posting some pics when we get back…

Afternoon at Lake Superior

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Spent the afternoon down at the Lake today with Leeroy and the Mrs.  I have to admit, Duluth in the summer time is not that bad.  If the tourists were not around it would better, but today was pretty beautiful.  Lake More pictures here.

Broken Tooth Pt.2

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Leeroy hit me in the mouth a week ago. I went to my dentist on Thursday and it was… well… lets just say my tooth is not going to fall out… yet.

He did a root canal and had to re-shape my tooth with a drill. Turns out Leeroy hit me so hard that he not only knocked it loose, he actually re-positioned the tooth and now the lower right corner was blocking my ability to bite down all the way. All this meant that my tooth was healing (sort of, keep reading) but in a different place than it should.

He said if he could have gotten to it right away he could re-position it, but since it had been a couple of days he had to re-shape it. Not only that, but there was a huge apses forming above my tooth and if I would have left it, the tooth would have been rejected by my body in a couple months anyways.

So he did a root canal, reshaped it, and I’m going back next Monday for a follow up and some more adjustments. I does still hurt and I can bite anything with the tooth, but Advil works wonders and I can eat things if I cut them up. There is still a danger that I cracked the root of my tooth and if that happened I could loose the tooth, but not for a long time (possibly decades).

So yeah… I don’t have pirate teeth yet and I’m very happy that I am not one of the 1/3 Americans who do not have dental insurance. Even if it did end up falling out in 10 years, maybe I could get a cool ass gold tooth and become a rapper. Maybe.

Lack of tech posts

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I guess it appears like I haven’t been doing much since there has been a lack of new posts on here, moreover a lack of tech related posts. Well, usually I post a techy post if I stumble upon something new and/or interesting at work and obviously its been kinda quiet on that front.

So what have I been up to then? Well, work wise, it has been mostly hacking Drupal and Windows Server related. Pretty boring. Nothing makes great blog posts like managing Active Directory and setting up Roaming Profiles… (Sarcasim)

In the personal realm of things there are a couple of things happening. We are looking for a new place, which is always interesting. We want a bigger place and somewhere over the hill so my commute is shorter. Just getting up by Miller Hill or in Hermantown will cut about 20 minutes off my commute, which is over an hour right now.

We also need a place that accepts dogs. Ugh. Then you throw in that we can afford a pretty nice place, but then that extra couple of hundred bucks we could save by just getting your run of mill apartment rather than a townhome or whatever could be put towards credit cards or student loans, and well, it gets complicated. We are really trying to pay off debt, as living debt free is a goal of ours.

Jen and I have started to take dancing lessons. It is pretty funny and a good time. We are the youngest couple by at least 20 years, but I think the other people at the class like having a younger couple there. It is also nice to see that I’m not the only person that sucks at dancing out there. Anyways, it is tons of fun and I recommend it to any couple out there.

Broke my tooth…

Monday, April 21st, 2008

The other day I was holding on to our pup, Leeroy, and he threw his head back and drilled me in the face. After a little blood and four letter words, I realized my front top tooth didn’t feel right.. and was a little crooked.. and was loose.

Took a trip to Urgent Care where the doc said he thought it looked as good ( like its not gonna just fall out) and I’m calling the dentist today.

The worst part of this isn’t how much it hurts, but its the fact I can’t eat anything except coffee, yogurt, and pudding. I had french onion soup, but I literally couldn’t even chew the soggy onions.  Liquid food just doesn’t really fill you up like a nice steak or slice of pizza..

[update]  Can’t get into the dentist till Thursday.
